The Power of At-Home Lymphatic Drainage Facial Massage

Lymphatic Drainage Facial Massage

bye bye puffy face…

I have to admit, at first I was slightly skeptical of “facial massage” or “lymphatic drainage”, thinking it was more insta-trendy than value-add. As I was prepping for our wedding, I figured it couldn’t hurt to throw it in the mix of my ever expanding beauty routine — and lo and behold, I absolutely fell in love. I’m surprised this didn’t register sooner because my face is the first place that I show signs of bloat, fatigue, water retention, puffiness, etc. when I have a weekend of indulging or lack of sleep, etc. These techniques have been immensely helpful for stimulating the lymphatic system for a relaxing pamper experience and bloat-free chiseled cheekbones, which we love.

There are many different methods of facial massage, but my favorite is using my hands. I do, however, love my gua sha and ice roller for a really quick routine in the morning. Now, most of these massage facialists tell you to use an oil so your skin doesn’t drag while massaging, and if you’re acne prone like me, that isn’t going to fly. My favorite way to do this is with cleanser on my face, as it gives me the same amount of “slip”. Dr. Mona Vand (love her, follow her on instagram) shared this idea and I love it. I do one cleanse to get my makeup off (if doing in the evening) and then I perform the massage with my second cleanse. I love to use these videos below depending on the time situation or type of massage I’m looking to do. Mona’s is in-depth and really stimulating, great for a spa night before a mask. Abigail’s is for when I need serious help (re: too much wine, cheese, salt, bloat city).

I have noticed such a difference doing these — from reducing under eye puffiness and dark circles to face bloat, it’s really a must. It’s amazing if you do one side and compare it to the other, you can literally see the difference. Facial massage is now an absolute staple in my routine.
